About Me

I am a blogger, speaker and soon to be podcaster. I enjoy challenging my own and others thinking and being surprised about what is possible.

Be more than you know

Being from humble beginnings, and blind too, life has definitely had its challenges and adventures. I have spent my whole life battling the odds, striving to operate and succeed in a world not built for me and being knocked down more times than I can count.

I am often asked how I manage to achieve the things I do, why I challenge myself and keep upping the ante.
Which is a good question! And one I wasn’t able to answer ten years ago when I was training hard to participate in a 21Km obsticle course known as Tough Mudder.

This question, and the interest and wonder of those around me, forced me to turn my mind inwards, to become a little more introspective. I came to realise, slowly and reluctantly at first, that maybe I did have an interesting story to tell, and some interesting and useful experiences to share with others.

My early reluctance has grown to be my passion. A desire to shake people out of their lethargy and daydreams, to take responsibility for their own direction and achievements and step up to be the very best version of themselves.

And well, this is why I started darrenfittler.com. I want to help you achieve, discover what’s possible and exceed your dreams.

Does this resonate with you? Are you ready to awaken your true potential and make positive steps towards your goals?

Get weekly tips about how to be more than you know

I believe we owe it to ourselves, our family and friends, the people we work with and for and the broader community to be the best versions of ourselves.

Through exclusive email newsletters and weekly posts I will share with you my life adventures (both the upds and the downs) and the lessons I’ve learnt and the insights I’ve gained along the way. I will give you the tools and motivation to:

  • dream bigger
  • achieve and exceed your goals
  • untap your full potential and shine in life and at work
  • discover opportunities and experiences you never imagined
  • gain new insights into the people and world around you

To me hurdles are not roadblocks, they are a challenge waiting to be solved. With this attitude and mindset I have been fortunate to experience and achieve many things in my life so far.

Here are some of them:

  • receiving the 2014 Australian Human Rights Law Award
  • becoming the first blind person in the world to complete a Tough Mudder course and to go on to embrace the – obstacle race phenomenon – also completing Spartan Race and Tough Bloke
  • riding a bike for 1100Kms from Brisbane to Sydney to raise money for charity. Yes … a tandem, and yes I was on the back. At least for most of the time!
  • trekking for 7 days through the mountains of Nepal
  • qualifying for the Atlanta paralympics in swimming, though, due to lack of funding, I couldn’t afford to go
  • becoming a partner of one of Australia’s premier top tier law firms
  • attaining my red belt in Tae Kwon Do – black belt here I come!
  • attending the United Nations in New York to participate in the drafting of the Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disability
  • public speaking, playing guitar and digeridoo, ballroom – dancing, wine tasting, learning HTML and WordPress, home brewing, water skiing, cross fit, singing, powerlifting
  • and by no means less important by being listed last, finding my life partner, getting married and bringing 2 great children into the world.

If this sounds amazing, extraordinary or maybe even impossible to you, then I have good news …

First, it’s all true.

And second, I am not amazing or extraordinary.

I’m just a regular guy who, due to necessity and the right mindset, has found a way to achieve and overcome many things that others, and even I, never thought possible.

Which means you can too!

Let me show you how.

Feel free to read more of my personal story, or reach out and contact me at any time.
